AFL-CIO Technology Institute Welcomes Jodi Forlizzi

Washington, DC – The AFL-CIO Technology Institute is delighted to welcome Jodi Forlizzi, Herbert A. Simon Professor in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University as a Senior Research Fellow.
Jodi Forlizzi brings extensive expertise in human-computer interaction and AI, with a focus on the impact of AI on front-line service workers. She has actively collaborated with the AFL-CIO and its affiliate unions, notably Unite Here, to address automation challenges in the hospitality industry. Her NSF-funded research has developed strategies to prepare workers for new technologies, enhancing job satisfaction, and ensuring worker input in tech design.
For the 2024-25 academic year, Forlizzi will take a sabbatical from Carnegie Mellon University, working with the AFL-CIO Technology Institute on centering worker voice and experience in the design, development and use of workplace technology. This collaboration aims to strengthen Carnegie Mellon University’s leadership in union-academic partnerships and the evolving tech economy.
